NORTH AMERICAN BUTTERFLY ASSOCIATION 8th Biennial Meeting meets in the Kern River Valley

Bob Barnes organized the NABA convention which visited the Kern River Valley for the first time since the inception of the organization. One hundred eighty-eight people participated in this biennial event bringing millions of dollars into the Kern River Valley economy. A total of 106 butterfly species were seen during field trips throughout the Kern Valley area and another 5 species were seen in a field trip to southern Kern County in the Mt. Pinos area. People came from the United Kingdom, Mexico and many from eastern states with the bulk of the crowd flying in from New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts. Of the almost 200 participants only a few residents of the Kern River Valley were involved mostly in supporting roles. Many other Kern County and California birders volunteered their time and money to make this event successful for all our visitors.
