Aspen Grove is a montane to subalpine riparian forest. Locally it is found only in the higher elevations of the of the Greenhorn Range and the Kern Plateau in the Sierra Nevada. This tree is especially showy in the fall when the leaves turn from green to golden to red.

The shimmering leaves of quaking aspen tell of flowing water nearby. Found above 6000' look for aspen groves along creeks on the Kern Plateau in the Corral Creek area. The most visible aspens are found along Sherman Pass Road (22S05) near a small meadow named Boy Scout Meadow just south of road 22S26.

A visit to the aspen grove in October is a must see if you enjoy beautiful fall colors.

The keystone species of all Sequoia National Forest riparian systems is the white alder (Alnus rhombifolia). This lovely tree has small bundles of cone like seed pods that hang from the branches. Both the alder and the aspen have whitish gray bark with the alder being the darker barked of the two. It is found from the higher mountains down into the Kern River Valley
